New York, May 9 — World leaders gathered today at the United Nations headquarters to address the growing environmental challenges facing Latin America. During the summit, titled "South Under Threat", several Latin American delegates presented alarming data about rising temperatures, floods, and agricultural collapse across the region.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the need for “urgent global coordination,” warning that "Latin America is no longer a distant warning — it is ground zero for climate disruption."
The summit also featured roundtable discussions between environmental ministers from Brazil, Chile, and Peru, alongside representatives from the European Union, who promised support in green energy transitions and reforestation efforts. The event ended with a call for an intercontinental emergency climate pact to be ratified in the next six months.
